The Dick Pic

“The Dick Pic.”

Yes, you read that right. Sit down. Clear the room of kids. Maybe even pour yourself a glass of wine, cause we’ve gotta talk!

Last night I met up with a girlfriend from out of town, and she let me in on a whole world I knew nothing about!

She’s 37, single and living life in the big city. When I asked her how the dating scene was, she lifted the veil on a world I hadn’t been able to see from my perch in my sheltered married life.

“It’s crazy out there. Guys are sending dick pics. It’s a thing now. Dick pics!! Can you believe that?”

I could not believe it! I’ve only been out of the dating world for 6 years and penis pictures are now a ‘thing’??

Am I the only one who finds this completely disturbing and appalling? Let’s remember, these are not 14 year old adolescent boys that have hormones bursting out of every square inch of their body. These are grown men. Contributing members of society. Taking pictures of their erect penises and sending them to women, thinking that it is in some way a turn on, appealing, or, dare I say, chivalrous.

Gone are the days, of ‘will he call the next day.’ No need to worry about that when you wake up to a photo of Mr. Johnson standing at attention.

How has the dating game changed so much in 6 short years? I recognise that this might not be every single man out there, but the fact that there’s enough of them doing this for it to become a ‘thing’ concerns me greatly!

If the dating world has gone from opening car doors, to texting penis pictures in attempt of reeling in the ladies, where will it go next? The thought of it makes me cringe for the future dating life of my daughters. Will they ever know what a true gentlemen is? Will that even exist by then, or will it be a thing of the past that we’ll never see again? Men being decent and respectable humans may vanish from our memory, just as we can’t remember life before the internet.

My hope is that the over-exposers will pull up their pants and put their cameras away. Maybe–just maybe–polite, courteous men will eventually come back around in fashion again, like clothing in the back of my Grandmother’s closet.

For the sake of all girls growing up with this generation of dick-heads, we can only hope!
