Who am I? This is a question I contemplate often, and I’m never a hundred percent sure of the answer. Some days I’m one thing to one person, and other days I’m something completely different to somebody else. The line is never clearly drawn and who I am is never clearly defined.

I’m a taxi driver. I’m responsible for doing pick ups and drop offs daily. I am the one that gets my children to school on time, to a play date, to after school events and friend’s birthday party.

I am a chef. I am the creator of nutritious meals. I’m the teacher a proper eating habits and table manners. I am the cook. I am the server. I am the dishwasher. I am the one who convinces you that brussel sprouts do not taste like feet and that candy will rot your teeth.

I am the doctor. I am a nurse. I am the kisser of all boo boos. I’m the wiper of tears.I am the hug waiting for you at the end of a sad day. I’m the one who cleans up puke, changes beds in the middle of the night and cuddles with you until your fever breaks.

I am the maid. I’m the one who asks you to hang up your clothes and put away your shoes. I am the one who washes your clothes and makes sure that your favorite shirt is in your drawer when you need it. I am the one who constantly steps on squinkies and the one who returns the little people to their bin. I am the one who mops up spilled drinks and vacuums up cookie crumbs. I am the scrubber of finger prints on the window and toothpaste in the sink.

At the end of the day, I quietly creep into your room as you sleep. I bend over and kiss your cheek, and the corner of your mouth turns into a slight smile. It is at that instant that I know who I am.

I am MOM.
