This year my kids asked for a computer for christmas.

Or a phone.

I just learned to care for a cel phone myself, and I am 40, not to mention that I got my first nice (read new) computer this past year, so there was no way this momma was shelling out 500$ for either of the premium items on their list. And as much as I wanted to make all their dreams come true and keep the “Santa myth” alive for another year… our budget just wasn’t going to work with their list.

UNTIL, the nexus 7 fell in my lap.

nexus 7

The nexus is that perfect blend of e-reader, and  computer, without the hefty fees!  At $249 (from Staples canada) the Nexus 7 fits our bill (and theirs).

With a great camera (and video feature) the kids can load up their device without breaking ours. They have access to games from the Google shop, and can easily browse the internet using our at home wifi.  Email – hooked up and ready for them! They can even purchase videos and books to keep them fully engrossed for days on end!

All of this without touching my computer, or hogging netflix on tv. We teach them to share, but really we like our electronics to be free of marshmallow gunk so we prefer not to share ours.

We LOVE the usability of the Nexus 7 (not being uber techy and it was even easy for US to use) and the fact that the kids have their own small and portable option rather than lugging around an expensive laptop.

And a final note from our bag of great Mom advice, kids who love reading of course are all over e-books, but more importantly, kids who are struggling to read at level can be motivated by the novelty of getting a book on their new device. This is Blunt Mom tested and is a fact.

Check it out, and order online just in time for Christmas! (or pick it up after the holidays … it would fit PERFECTLY into a purse! Just saying!)

Yes, we did get a Nexus 7 in exchange for telling you about it. And yes, our daughter will be getting it for Christmas. And yes, I WAS able to turn the tablet on, and operate it, even with my limited tech skills.  And yes, we will be really, really happy as our daughter spends her christmas holidays nose in tablet and leaves us to some peace & quiet.
