better momHappy (late) Father’s Day to the Man who Makes Me a Better Mom
My husband just returned from a 5 day business trip.
Business Trip.
Sounds like I am in an episode from Mad Men.
Let’s try this again, my husband just returned home after 5 days at a conference.
I have known about this “week” away since January and have not been looking forward to it.  Even though I stay home with the kids all day, the idea of having them for 5 days alone freaked me out.  Mostly, because I thought it was going to take forever for the five days to pass.   And honestly, I didn’t think I was going to enjoy it.
My husband is a good husband and an even better friend, but the thing that he excels the most at is being a father. And he loves being a father.  He was made for it.  While I plan ladies nights out, exercise classes, painting workshops and girls weekends away. He doesn’t.
He doesn’t because he just doesn’t want to. He wants to be with his family.  I know we are different that way and he knows it too.  Obviously, we married each other for a lots of different reason. One of them is how we feed off each other.  We do it quite beautifully.  I get my energy by being with my friends and he re charges by having his time with his family and his quiet time alone.
Plus, he laughs at all my jokes.  And maybe that is what I missed most about him being gone. The kids are too young for my nonsense.
Besides that, I did miss him and everything he does for our family, but he was not forgotten.
I followed his lead.
I re charged by spending time with my kids.  I didn’t kick them out of my room in the morning, I snuggled with them.  I didn’t rush them through the 4 th book, instead I read 6.   I didn’t argue with my daughter over pouring water all over her brothers head, I laughed with them.  I took a step back an enjoyed my children.
The five days flew by and I loved almost every second of it, all because I did things that I learned from him.
Happy Father’s Day, Zed.
