February 14, 2005. The day I become a mother. The day my world, my reality, cracked open and was changed forever. The day everything I thought I knew about myself was blown into a million pieces. The day I met my sons.

This was truly the first day I realized that life can take you in a million different directions all at once, and places you never imagined for yourself, both good and bad. Fear and hope and anticipation and excitement and fear (yes, I said fear again) and great joy and moments of inspiration and overwhelm and fear (yes, that’s 3 times now), and that all consuming instinct and motherly love. That is a lot for one day.

As any parent, and anyone who’s ever met a child can tell you, it’s not an easy ride. It is a lifetime of highs and lows and cheerios and snot and cute chubby fingers and baby soft hair.Those first five years especially are incredibly intense.
