Women complaining about their mother-in-laws is a respected tradition that has been around for as long as their sons have been choosing the wrong woman. The raging bitch, the silent judger, the backhanded compliment-giver. The shitty mother in law may come in many flavours, but they certainly aren’t all equal. I personally think I’ve been saddled with the worst of them – the not-quite-clinically-insane.
At first glance people think she’s just lovely, oh so sweet and helpful. Most don’t get to know or experience the other personalities of being passive-aggressive/ignorant/liar/prejudiced and big time manipulator. Let me share the torture that I’m subjected to at the hands of this woman.
- “I didn’t think you had to brush babies/toddlers teeth since they have a natural protection”
- Tells hubby that our daughter is going to get Rickets if we don’t feed her the way MIL thinks we should. You don’t know what Rickets is? That’s probably because it was last a concern in modern America during the Great Depression. How do you even argue with this kind of insanity?
- “All those damn immigrants are ruining this country.” Did I mention my own deceased mother was Asian and I wasn’t born in “this country?”
- Calls in sick to Thanksgiving lunch and later reveals that her illness was a bad case of cougar-itis she was treating with the help of a trailer park guy the same age as my husband. Seriously, who does that?!?!
If she were a raging bitch, I could live the daughter-in-law’s dream of a good mother-in-law smack down once in a awhile. Alas no, instead I get this lovely mish mash of insanity where sometimes I think I’m in an acid dream because I couldn’t possibly be hearing correctly.
I could write a novel on all the moments of sheer torture that she has put us through but I’ll limit myself to just these few of the more ridiculous ones. You can call me crazy, but this is why I would rather my mother-in-law be a raging bitch. I’d give just about anything to be able to tell her to piss off and stop being a bitch, without having everyone else I know questioning my sanity. So if someone would like to swap their raging bitch of a mother in law for mine, I’d be happy to do the trade….please…soon?
