Want to know the measure of the woman? Ask her how she prepares for a trip, and then look in her suitcase.
Some of the Bluntmoms are in Toronto right now at Blissdom Canada 2013. Some of us stayed home and are minding the fort. We decided to have some wicked fun (based a little bit in jealousy) and share with the readers of BluntMoms, some of the conversation that went on behind the scenes as the ladies prepared to travel.
The girls were all a chatter about who was arriving when, who is bunking with whom and best of all, what outfits are you packing? On top of that, there was a lot of discussion about how to prepare their families for the trauma of Mom being away.
The travelling Moms don’t know that we “left behind” Moms are going to run amok while they are busy at their conference.
So here are some of the things that Blunt Moms said about packing up and leaving home to attend a Blogger Conference:
- Crap, I need to renew my anxiety meds to get on a damned plane.
- I pick the biggest, most ridiculous, and least relevant project around the house to tackle instead of packing. I never have time to finish it, so I leave for the trip with the house in complete chaos, tripping over it all as I try to get out the door.
- I can never decided how many pairs of underwear to bring. For some reason I seem to think that when I’m on holidays I need enough underwear to change 4 times a day. No joke.
- I made a big giant chart for each day I am gone and who has to be where and when and when things need to get paid…? (editor’s note: The response to this was mockery of epic proportion including something about “wiping somebody’s butt for them while you are at it”… so we decided not to repeat it here since well.. it got kinda out of hand)
- I’ve had a schedule and a meal plan and a phone list on the cabinets in the kitchen. Oy! (Says the self admitted Type A Control freak)
- I always purposefully forget my toothbrush and get one from the hotel. I also always pack my running gear and never use it. I do carry-on always because I hate waiting for my bags and the thought if them getting lost.
- I can never figure out how to get my liquids to fit in the stupid bag they give. How do you do it? Especially if you’re going somewhere you need sunscreen?
- There are some toys that I can’t travel without. I’d rather leave my toothbrush at home (this is one of our more interesting authors… what do you think?)
- I just try and leave my whole family at home. Actually, make that everything. A good trip is one that starts with me, a plane ticket and a passport.
- I find I’m always packing emergency NAIR…because packing = bathing suit and bathing suit always = realizing I haven’t paid attention to the pubes in months.
- I make sure I cut and file my nails before I go away. I’m planning it for today or tomorrow. Yup, That’s me.
- I got my hair cut today. First time in one year. I looked like “hair” from the Addams Family and was an embarrassment to my family.
- I buy new underwear. Does that count?
- I panic pack… I vow to travel lightly until about half an hour before I head out. That’s when I start adding “just in case” items until I can no longer close my suitcase. I ALWAYS overpack…
- I’m only packing black so I can bring one less brown shoe, boot and purse. Faaaaaa
- I go bra shopping because my last good bra fell apart. I burst into tears when I found out they don’t sell my size anymore, and let an old lady measure and grope me until we found one that fits.
- I brought my blender in my luggage! My bag was 10 lbs overweight. Had to use my extra bag. May have to hitchhike home.

We know that the BluntMoms will make an exceptional and groomed showing (pubes included) at Blissdom, but we thought it might be fun to lift the curtain on how much fuss goes in to it when a Mom travels without her diaper entourage.
