career womenI am surrounded by career women.

Women who either go out into the world and succeed in business, or who have struck out into the online world of home based internet entrepreneur moms.

I am a nanny. I raise children, my own and someone elses.

I love my job, although few would even consider what I do  a job. I love being with these kids, have always loved just being with kids.

I am told I should find something for myself,  I have so much potential, so much more to offer. I would feel more fulfilled if I tried something new and out of my comfort zone.

Really? Why? I am very fulfilled the way I am, thank you very much. I take enormous pride in the knowledge I have successfully potty trained around 25 kids in the past 20 years, and only 2 were mine.

I have encouraged and supported, nagged and disciplined our future leaders. I love to watch one of my little charges work towards a goal and achieve it. I take pride in all their accomplishments, and yes that is enough for me.

I think, perhaps, that my career friends cannot possibly comprehend how I could be fulfilled as an educated, modern woman just working at home with kids, because they weren’t.

It wasn’t enough for them so it mustn’t be enough for me.

But it is. Really. So let it go.

  1. Holy crap. If the world was filled with more child care providers like you we would all be happier moms.

  2. It takes a special kind of person to deal with children all day… and then deal with their annoying parents. Good on you girl.
