“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” is one of those cliches that make me grit my teeth. The problem is, we can fall into that cliche’s trap by accident. My old fridge worked. Technically. But I overlooked all of its problems because they seemed so minor that I didn’t think about them–much. Now that I have made the switch? I’m so glad I did.

Here’s the 5 best features of the Frigidaire Gallery Custom-Flex™… and the 5 biggest reasons to ditch the old fridge.

1) Freezer on top!

My son was unable to reach anything in our old fridge that had the freezer on the bottom. Now? He can help himself.
Before you say, wait, what? I’d like to point out that you and me, we’re adults. My son was unable to reach anything in our old fridge that had the freezer on the bottom. He had to ask for pretty much everything (and you moms know how tiresome this can get) or I had to rearrange my fridge so he could get at all the things he wanted.

The problem with rearranging the fridge? Fridges with freezers on bottom are built for adults who hate to bend over, and they aren’t meant to be super-accessible on the bottom shelf to children. It poses major organizational issues. Now? He can help himself.

2) Organization, organization, organization!

The Store-More™ Drawer helps give me safe, contained space for unsafe items.
For my son and I, given his food allergies? Bad organization could mean a trip to the ER… or worse. Everything needs a place. A safe place. And the Store-More™ Drawer helps give me that safe, contained space for unsafe items and things that he doesn’t want to get into anyway, like chia seeds and packaged herbs. Bonus for me: if they spill, they don’t go everyplace.

The rest of the fridge? It’s mostly fair game. For extra convenience, I put washed fruits and school-safe cookie bars in door bins, which makes packing lunch just that much easier.

3) Smudge-less stainless steel goes with EVERYthing.

No matter how much you may redecorate your kitchen, stainless steel will always be cool.
Before, stainless steel went out because OH EM GEE the fingerprints on everything. You pretty much had to just leave a bottle of all-surface cleaner and a rag sitting right on top. Those times are past, man. Past. Now, they have figured out how to make the amazing thing that is smudge-proof stainless steel. I didn’t really believe it until I spent about five minutes rubbing my fingers all over it.

There is no reason not to gleefully buy stainless steel appliances any longer, knowing that no matter how much you may redecorate your kitchen, stainless steel will always be cool.

 4) Flexibility!

You can pretty much do whatever, whenever you need to… or want to.
With my old fridge, our motto was “It is what it is.” And that’s pretty much how it was: there were no alternatives. The Frigidaire Gallery Custom-Flex™ fridge doesn’t understand what that phrase even means. Between having the Store-More™ Drawer, the slide-under flip-up shelf, and fully-customizeable door with multiple sized bins–and each of those items being really easy to move around–you can pretty much do whatever, whenever you need to… or want to.

Need to play a 3-D version of Tetris with the contents of your fridge for Thanksgiving or a big block-party BBQ? YES WE CAN.

 5) Ends the waste!

Between the lighting and the improved organization, food has stopped getting pushed to the back or buried in my fridge.
In my old fridge, I had food waste issues, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I didn’t even realize exactly how big the problem was. The problem with “dealing” with the limitations of a bad fridge and the bad organization that goes with it is that you’re oblivious to the cost of “dealing.” I don’t know exactly how much my “dealing” cost me, but I did some educated guessing, and the numbers made me uncomfortable. At the very least, it was $200 over the last year. I wasted a lot of food.

Between the bright lighting and the massively improved organization thanks to the Frigidaire Gallery Custom-Flex’s features, food has stopped getting pushed to the back or buried under piles in my fridge. So far, the only thing that I’ve thrown out is a lime and a small leftover sliver of cheese that ended up going mouldy.

Look how easy it is to see everything with just a glance!

  1. Is it sick to lust after an appliance? I love this fridge and I don’t even own one (at least, not until the successful sabotaging of my current working fridge has been accomplished – baby steps). For me, customization is key – I hate a disorderly fridge! This thing is gorgeous.

  2. Oh my gosh- SO ORGANIZED. This makes my fridge look like a hurricane blew through. I am honestly ashamed to admit how much food I waste. Organization is so key–as is having a good fridge. This is awesome.
